Getting started
Updated 7 October 2026, 4 min readThe browser terminal has four areas: a bar across the top, Market Watch on the left, the chart in the middle and a panel along the bottom. This guide goes through each one in the browser version at terminal.etraderweb.com. The phone apps put the same parts behind a tab bar.
The top bar
On the right of the top bar is the account chip. It shows the account you are signed in to and a badge that says Demo or Live. If you signed in with an investor password, the badge adds View Only. Press the chip to open the account menu:
- Every account you are signed in to, each with its Broker, its Server and its own badge. Click one to switch the terminal to it. The cross on a row signs out that account alone.
- The gear on the active account opens Account Settings: the account's name, Login, currency, leverage, Broker, Server and type, the Change Password section and the Sign Out button.
- Add Account opens the Broker picker and adds a second Login without dropping the first.
- Manage eTrader ID opens your eTrader ID page in a new tab.
- Bots opens the window where your AI Bots and your Bots from eTrader Code run on this account. See running bots in the cloud.
- The theme switch, Auto, Light or Dark, and Sign Out.
To the left of the chip, depending on your account and your browser, you may see Copytrading when your Broker offers it, and Install App in Chrome or Edge on a computer. Installing the web app explains it.
Market Watch
Market Watch lists your symbols with four columns: Symbol, Spread, Bid and Ask, with the spread in pips. Click a symbol to show it on the chart. The plus button in the panel header, Add / Remove Symbols, opens the full list of instruments your Broker offers, where you choose which ones appear. The edge between Market Watch and the chart drags to make the panel wider or narrower.
The chart and its toolbar
The toolbar above the chart runs from left to right:
- The symbol and the timeframe: Tick first, then M1, M5, M15, M30, H1, H4, D1, W1 and MN. Tick draws every price change.
- The chart type: Candlesticks, Hollow Candles, Heikin-Ashi, OHLC Bars, Line or Area. Chart Colours, at the bottom of the same menu, opens Settings with the chart colours and the Show Ask Line, Show Drawing Tools and Show OHLC Info switches.
- Indicators and Drawings. The Indicators list starts with Custom, where Upload Indicator adds your own
.etifiles; see custom indicators. The drawing tools are grouped as lines, shapes, Fibonacci and a text label. - The pending order tool and the price alert tool. Pick one and click the chart at the price you want.
- Free Move, which lets you drag the chart in any direction. Switch it off to return to auto-fit.
- Market Depth, then More, with Chart Layout for one to four charts and New Window to open the chart in its own tab.
On the right of the toolbar are New Order, which opens the full order ticket, and the SELL and BUY buttons, laid out as in the iPhone app. Each has a small label over the live price, with the pips in large figures. The Volume box between them has minus and plus buttons. SELL and BUY send a market order at once with no confirmation, so the first time you press one the terminal asks you to enable one-click trading. Enable turns it on for that browser; Cancel leaves it off. Placing orders covers both routes.
The browser tab shows the price, the symbol and the timeframe, such as 4168.78 XAUUSD M1 | eTrader Web. A chart in its own tab shows the same.
On the chart itself, open positions and pending orders are drawn as lines with their stop loss and take profit. Each line drags. The charts guide covers indicators and drawings in detail.
The bottom panel
The panel under the chart has five tabs.
- Trade lists your open positions with live profit and loss, then your pending orders under their own heading. The columns can be chosen and resized.
- History lists closed trades. The buttons above it pick a range, All, Today, Week, Month or Custom, and Export CSV saves the trades in that range as a file.
- Alerts holds your price alerts. The bar at the top reads Alert Me At, with the instrument and a price, then Add Alert.
- Calendar lists this week's economic events, with their impact and a countdown. See the economic calendar.
- News brings headlines from the wires, the papers and the central banks. See market news.
If you are a money manager, the panel shows extra tabs for your investors, and a button to copy your invite link.
At the top of the panel, right under the tabs, runs the account strip: Balance, Equity, Margin, Free Margin, Margin Level and Open P/L. It stays there on every tab, and the numbers update with every price. Balance, equity and margin explains what each one means and when the margin level matters. The edge between the chart and the panel drags up and down.
Messages you may see
A red line reading Connection lost - reconnecting… prices may be stale means the terminal has lost contact with the Server. It reconnects on its own. A Risk Warning toast about the margin level means the account is close to its stop out level. Sign in problems covers the messages on the sign in screen.
What the terminal remembers
The browser terminal remembers your Market Watch list, the last symbol, timeframe and chart type, your chart layout, the indicators and drawings on each chart, the chart colours you save and the size of each panel. It keeps them in the browser you use, so the next visit opens where you left off. A different browser or computer starts from the defaults.
Positions, pending orders, history and price alerts are different: they belong to the trading account, so every device you sign in on shows the same ones.
