Your account
Updated 28 September 2026, 3 min readYou can change the trader password of any trading account you are signed in to, from inside the terminal, as long as you know the current one. It takes three fields and one button. If you have forgotten the current password, this is not the page for it: skip to the last section.
In the browser terminal
- Press the account chip at the top right and choose Account Settings. If you are connected to several accounts, switch to the one you want to change first; the section always acts on the account that is open.
- Find Change Password, under the account details. The first block is headed Trader password.
- Type the password you signed in with in Current Password.
- Type the new one in New Password, and again in Confirm New Password.
- Press Update Password. The terminal answers Password updated.
The next time you sign in to this account, on any device, use the new password.
In the apps
On the iPhone and Android apps, open Settings and tap Change Password. The sheet asks for the current password, the new one and the new one again, and says Password changed. when it is done.
A password changed in one app is changed everywhere, because it belongs to the trading account, not to the device.
What a new password must be
- At least 12 characters, and no more than 200.
- Different from the current password.
- Not a common password. The terminal refuses the usual suspects, such as password1, qwerty123 or 12345678, with That password is too common - choose something harder to guess.
- Not a single character repeated, and made of at least five different characters.
Length does more for a password than symbols do. Three or four unrelated words run together pass every rule and are easier to type on a phone than a short string of punctuation. Use a password you do not use anywhere else, and keep it in a password manager rather than a note on the desk.
Messages you may see
| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| Fill in every field. | One of the three boxes is empty. |
| Your current password is incorrect. | The Current Password field does not match the account. Type the password you signed in with. |
| The two new passwords don't match. | New Password and Confirm New Password differ. Type both again. |
| The new password must be at least 12 characters. | Make it longer. |
| The new password must be different from the current one. | Choose a password you have not been using on this account. |
The investor password is separate
Under the trader password block sits Investor password (view only), a second password that shows the account without trading it. Changing the trader password leaves the investor password as it was, and the other way round. The investor password guide covers setting, replacing and removing it.
If you are signed in with the investor password, the Change Password section does not appear at all. Sign out and sign in with the trader password to change either one.
If you have forgotten the current password
The terminal has no password reset, and eTrader cannot look up a password for you.
- For an account a Broker or prop firm issued, the firm resets it. Ask its support or use its client portal, then sign in with the password it gives you and change it here if you want your own.
- For an eTrader demo account, the password is in the email sent when you opened it. If that email is gone and you are still signed in on some device, change the password from there. If you are signed in nowhere, open a new demo account.
