eTrader is one terminal shared by every broker and prop firm on the platform. Instead of downloading a different app for each firm, you pick the firm from a list and sign in with the login it gave you. This guide is that first screen, and the few things that can go wrong on it.
The broker picker
Open the terminal or any of the apps and the sign in sheet says Choose your broker to continue. Under it is a search box and a list of firms with their logos. Type the first letters of your firm's name and the list narrows. Prop firms appear here in the same way as brokers; there is no separate list for them.
Tap the firm and the sheet moves to the second step, with the firm's name at the top and a Change button in case you picked the wrong one.
Server, login, password
Three fields:
- Server. A firm usually runs a demo server and a live server, each with its own name. Choose the one named in the email or portal page that gave you the account. An account number exists on one server only, so a login refused on one is worth trying on the other.
- Login. The account number the firm issued. Numbers only.
- Password. The trader password from the same message. A password issued by a prop firm for a challenge account works the same way.
Keep Me Signed In is ticked by default, so the app opens straight to your charts next time. Untick it on a computer that is not yours. Press Sign In and the terminal loads your account.
When the firm is not listed
A firm appears in the list once it has joined eTrader and passed the platform's checks. eTrader accepts licensed financial institutions only, and each one is verified before its servers become available, so a firm cannot be added from the trader's side and eTrader cannot add one on request.
If yours is missing, tell them. Firms join through eTrader Business, and a client asking for it is the reason most of them look. In the meantime the whole terminal is open to you on a demo account.
A demo account instead
Under the broker list, Open an eTrader Demo Account issues an account in about a minute. It asks for a name, an email, a starting balance from $1,000 to $100,000, a leverage from 1:50 to 1:500, and a password of at least twelve characters, or it generates one for you. The account trades virtual money on live prices, with every feature of the terminal.
A demo opened here belongs to eTrader, not to a broker, and you can delete it yourself from Settings. Every live account comes from a broker or prop firm, never from eTrader.
The investor password
Any trading account can carry a second, read-only password. Sign in with it and the terminal shows the positions, the history and the charts, and refuses every order. It is the password to hand to someone who should see the account without being able to touch it, and the one a prop firm or a money manager may ask for when they verify your trading.
Set or change it from Change Password in Settings, where the trader password and the investor password have separate fields. On the sign in sheet an investor password goes in the same Password field as the trader password; the terminal works out which one it is.
Several accounts at once
If you trade with more than one firm, or hold a challenge account and a funded account at the same prop firm, you do not need two terminals. Open the Accounts sheet from the account menu and press Connect Another Account. It runs the same broker picker and adds the account to the list. Each entry shows its balance and equity, a tap switches the whole terminal to it, and Sign out this account removes one without touching the others.
Sign in problems
- Wrong server. The most common one. Try the firm's other server.
- Wrong password. eTrader never stores or resets it. The firm's client portal does.
- Not Connected in the account bar after signing in means the terminal cannot reach the firm's server. Give it a moment; it reconnects on its own. If it stays, check your connection and then ask the firm whether the server is up.
- Feed not quoting on an instrument means the market is closed or the firm is not publishing a price for it right now. Other instruments keep working.
Anything about the account itself, its balance, its leverage or its permissions, is a question for the firm that issued it. eTrader is the terminal; the account and the money are with them.
