Apps
Updated 7 October 2026, 4 min readYour stop loss can be hit at three in the morning, and you will want to know before you open the terminal. eTrader sends a notification to your devices when something happens on your trading account, whether the app is open, in the background or closed.
What you are told about
| Notification | When it arrives |
|---|---|
| Position Opened | A market order is filled and a new position is open. |
| Order Filled | A pending buy or sell limit or stop reaches its price and becomes a position. |
| Stop Loss Hit | A position closes at its stop loss. |
| Take Profit Hit | A position closes at its take profit. |
| Stopped Out | A position is closed because the account ran out of margin. |
| Position Closed or Partially Closed | A position is closed in full or in part. |
| Price Alert | The price reaches a level you set with a price alert. |
Close notifications carry the instrument and the profit or loss in your account currency. Opened and filled notifications carry the side, the volume, the instrument and the price.
Robots and AI Bots set to Signals only send their trade ideas the same way, so each signal arrives as a notification instead of an order. The Trade or Signals only guide explains the two modes.
Where they arrive
- iPhone and Android. The app asks for permission to send notifications the first time it opens. Allow it. If you said no, turn notifications on for eTrader in the phone's own settings.
- Browser. The web terminal asks to show notifications after you sign in. Allowed, the browser can show them even after you close the terminal's tab. Blocked, you only see messages inside an open terminal. To change your answer, use the site settings for terminal.etraderweb.com in your browser.
Notifications go to every device signed in to the trading account, so a stop hit on an account you watch from both the phone and the browser shows on both.
Choose what you get
Trade notifications come in three groups. You switch them in one place, for the whole account.
In the web terminal. Open Account Settings and find Push Notifications. Its three switches are Stop Loss and Take Profit, Order Fills and Positions Opened and Closed. Change them and press Save. They decide which notifications the account sends at all, to every phone and browser signed in to it.
The three groups are:
- Stop Loss and Take Profit covers Stop Loss Hit, Take Profit Hit and Stopped Out.
- Order Fills covers pending orders that fill.
- Positions Opened and Closed covers Position Opened, Position Closed and Partially Closed.
In the phone app. On iPhone and Android, Settings has a Notifications card with the same three groups. Those switches only choose which trade messages show inside the open app. They do not stop push notifications. To stop those, use the web terminal switches above.
Price alerts are not in these groups. You asked for each alert when you set it, so it is always delivered while it exists. To stop an alert, delete it from the Alerts tab. Signals from a robot in Signals only mode follow the same rule: switch the robot to Trade mode or turn it off to stop them.
On Android, eTrader files its notifications in two system categories, Trade Alerts and Price Alerts. In the phone's notification settings for eTrader you can give each its own sound or silence one without touching the other. On the iPhone, price alerts play an alarm sound so they stand apart from trade notifications.
When notifications do not arrive
- Check the device allows notifications from eTrader, in the phone's settings or the browser's site settings.
- Check Focus, Do Not Disturb or battery saving modes. They can hold notifications back without telling you.
- Check the switch for that group under Push Notifications in the web terminal's Account Settings. A switched-off group stays silent on purpose.
- Open the app once and sign in to the account again. The device registers for notifications when you sign in, so a fresh sign-in fixes most cases after a phone restore or a new phone.
A notification is information only. It tells you what happened; it never places, changes or closes anything. For what happens at your stop and target, see stop loss and take profit.
