Delete your account and data

Deleting an eTrader demo account or an eTrader ID yourself, closing an account a firm issued, and what is removed.

In short

  • An eTrader demo account is deleted from Account Settings with Delete This Demo Account.
  • Deletion is immediate and permanent, and the Login stops working at once.
  • No password? Delete your demo accounts at etraderweb.com/delete-account with a code sent to your email.
  • An account a Broker or prop firm issued can only be closed by that firm.
  • An eTrader ID is deleted separately, on id.etraderweb.com.

Your account

What you can delete depends on who issued the account. An eTrader demo account you opened yourself can be deleted by you, from inside the terminal, in a few seconds. An account a Broker or prop firm gave you can only be closed by that firm. An eTrader ID is deleted on its own page. This guide covers all three, and what happens to your data in each case.

Delete an eTrader demo account

In the browser terminal:

  1. Sign in to the demo account you want to delete. If you are connected to several accounts, switch to it from the account chip first.
  2. Press the account chip at the top right and choose Account Settings.
  3. Under Delete Account, press Delete This Demo Account.
  4. The terminal asks once more, naming the account number, and warns that the Login stops working immediately. Press Yes, Delete Permanently, or Keep My Account to back out.

On the iPhone and Android apps, open Settings and tap Delete This Demo Account.

The option only appears on eTrader demo accounts, the ones on the eTrader-Demo Server. If you do not see it, the account was issued by a firm; see below.

What deleting a demo removes

Deletion is immediate and permanent. It cannot be undone and the account cannot be restored. It removes:

  • the name and email address you gave when you opened the demo;
  • the demo balance, open positions, pending orders and trade history;
  • your price alerts and notifications;
  • the saved sessions and device registrations, so push notifications to your phone stop;
  • any copytrading links belonging to the account, and any bots running on it, which are stopped and removed.

The Login stops working at once, on every device. If you were connected to other accounts in the same terminal, they stay signed in. To use eTrader again later, you open a new demo account.

A minimal security record that the deletion happened is kept: the account number, the time and the IP address it came from, along with anything the law requires to be kept. The Legal Center sets out the detail.

Delete a demo account by email

You do not need the password. If you still have the inbox you opened the demo with, you can delete it on the web:

  1. Go to etraderweb.com/delete-account.
  2. Enter the email you used for your demo accounts and press Email Me a Code.
  3. Enter the 6-digit code from your inbox and press Verify Code. The code works for 10 minutes.
  4. You see every eTrader demo account opened with that email. Tick the ones to remove and press Delete Selected, or press Delete All Demo Accounts.
  5. Press Delete Permanently to confirm. The accounts are deleted at once.

Only eTrader demo accounts show up there. An account a Broker or prop firm issued never appears, even if it uses the same email.

If you no longer have that inbox, email [email protected] with the subject "Delete my demo account" and the account number. You get a reply to confirm it, normally within 7 days.

An account from a Broker or prop firm

An account a firm issued is that firm's client record, and the firm keeps it under its own regulatory and record-keeping duties. eTrader cannot delete it, and the terminal does not show a delete option for it.

To close it, contact the firm's support. The firm is also the one to ask for a copy of the personal data it holds about you, or for that data to be corrected or erased.

If all you want is to remove the account from your device, that is signing out, not deleting. Open the account chip and press the cross on the account's row, or choose Sign Out in Account Settings. The account and everything in it stay with the firm, and you can sign in again at any time.

Delete your eTrader ID

Your eTrader ID, the login for eTrader Code and eTrader AI, is deleted separately at id.etraderweb.com. Sign in, open the Security tab and press Delete my eTrader ID. A code is sent to your email to confirm it is you, and deletion is immediate once you enter it.

It removes the ID, its email address and name, its activity log, your eTrader Code files, your AI Bots and their account links, the AI model keys you saved and your API keys. Trading accounts you connected are not deleted; only their link to your ID goes. The eTrader ID guide has more.

Other requests about your data

To ask for a copy of the personal data eTrader holds about you, to correct it, or to have it deleted in a way the steps above do not cover, email [email protected]. The privacy policy in the Legal Center lists your rights and how long each kind of data is kept.

Questions

Why is there no delete button on my account?

The account was issued by a Broker or prop firm. Only eTrader demo accounts, on the eTrader-Demo Server, can be deleted from the terminal. Contact the firm to close the account.

I forgot my demo password. Can I still delete it?

Yes. Go to etraderweb.com/delete-account, enter the email you opened the demo with and confirm the code we send you. You can then delete one demo account or all of them.

Can I get a deleted demo account back?

No. Deletion is permanent and the account cannot be restored. Open a new demo account if you want to trade on demo again.

Does deleting my eTrader ID delete my trading accounts?

No. It removes the ID, its files, its AI Bots, its saved model keys and its API keys. Connected trading accounts stay with the firm that issued them.

Is signing out the same as deleting?

No. Signing out removes the account from that device only. The account, its positions and its history stay as they are, and you can sign in again.
