Copy trading and managers
Updated 28 September 2026, 4 min readA money manager can trade your account for you. In eTrader that runs through MAM and PAMM, which are part of the platform itself, on the same accounts and the same terminal you already use. They exist only where your Broker offers them, and you join a manager from the invite link the manager gives you.
This guide covers joining, and MAM in detail. PAMM, where you invest in a pooled account and hold units, has its own guide.
MAM and PAMM in one paragraph each
MAM: the manager places one order, it is filled once at one price, and it is split across the investors' accounts. The trades appear on your own trading account, in your own Positions list. How your share is worked out is set by the manager as the allocation: by equity, by balance, by a multiplier or by a percent.
PAMM: the manager trades one pool account. You invest money into the pool and hold units in it, with a price per unit. Money goes in and comes out on dealing days.
Open the invite
The manager shares a link that looks like etraderweb.com/mam-pamm?invite= followed by a code. Open it in a browser on any device. Joining happens on that web page, not inside the apps.
Sign in with the trading account you want the manager to trade: search for your Broker, pick the Server, and enter the account number and password. They are the same ones you use in the trading app.
If you already have the page open, paste the code under Have an invite code? and press View offer. If the page says the link is not valid any more, ask the manager for a new one.
Read the offer
The invite opens the manager's terms before you commit to anything. For MAM they include:
| Term | What it means |
|---|---|
| Type | MAM: trades placed on your own account |
| Currency | The currency the terms are set in |
| Performance fee | The manager's share of profit, charged monthly or quarterly |
| High water mark | If Yes, the performance fee is charged only on profit above the last peak |
| Management fee | A yearly fee |
| Allocation | How each trade is split between investors: by equity, by balance, multiplier or percent |
| When you leave | Whether the manager's open trades stay open or close when you leave |
| Max drawdown | A maximum drawdown set in the terms, as a percentage, or Not set |
Read the fees and the leaving terms closely. Once you join, the manager decides what is traded on your account.
Join
Under the terms is the agreement. For MAM it gives the manager power of attorney to place and manage trades on your account. Tick it, and the Join button becomes active. Press it to follow the manager, or Not now to leave without joining.
You need the trading password to join. If you signed in with the account's investor password, the page shows everything but joining, investing, redeeming and leaving are switched off.
While you follow a manager
Back on the MAM / PAMM page, the manager appears under Your managers with the status Following, the allocation, the date you joined and the currency.
In the terminal, the account shows a Managed by label with the manager's name. The manager places trades on the account, and trading from the app stays off while you follow: the order buttons are hidden. You still see every position, its profit, your balance and your history as usual, on the web, iPhone and Android.
The Statement button on the manager's card shows the closed trades, the requests and the fees charged over a period.
Leave
Press Leave on the manager's card and confirm. The manager stops trading the account. Open trades the manager placed are closed or kept, as the offer's When you leave term set out. Check the Positions list afterwards, and once you have left, trading from the app is yours again.
Things to know first
- MAM and PAMM are offered by Brokers, not by eTrader. If your Broker does not offer them, there is nothing to join.
- Manager and investor accounts are all at the same Broker. A manager at another Broker cannot trade your account.
- eTrader holds no money. Your funds stay with your Broker the whole time, and deposits and withdrawals happen on the Broker's own portal.
- A manager's past results do not tell you what the next month will bring.
